Blog

The amount of prayer over a situation should exceed the amount of worry.

Hi friends! I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted a blog (one month, actually), I’m so sorry! Things got really busy, which isn’t an excuse, but we’re back on schedule.

Speaking of busy, that’s how my mind felt all day yesterday. There was a certain situation which doesn’t usually occupy much space in my thoughts that I found myself being very prominent to the point that it became overwhelming. The funny thing is in the overthinking of this situation I didn’t stop to pray…I just let the thoughts pile up. Around 9:00 PM I felt the Holy Spirit convict me and say “the amount of prayer over a situation should exceed the amount of worry”, that stopped me really quick! Haha. I instantly got into the Word and began declaring Scripture over the situation and let me tell you, in the first five minutes I was more at peace than I had been the entire day. The funny thing is, I should’ve known better! I know what to do in those situations but instead I let it bubble up all day because my mind was clouded by worry, my own made-up scenarios, and not turning my eyes unto Jesus. This isn’t the first time I’ve done this, and we’re all human, so it probably won’t be the last, but it was such a great reminder for me and I hope it will be for you too.

Psalm 121:1-2 says “I will lift up my eyes to the hills [of Jerusalem]—From where shall my help come? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.” When we’re in worry the enemy loves for us to keep our eyes on our situation, the worst possible scenario, and lies, this fogs our mental clarity and instead of focusing on God we are stuck in our spinning thoughts. That’s why Psalm 121 says that our help doesn’t come from anything or anyone other than God, lift your eyes ABOVE your circumstance and put them on the One who your help comes from, the One with all the answers, the One who is not worried or shaken by what you’re going through.

You may be wondering “how do I lift my eyes up? What do I do?” The Scripture that kept coming up in my spirit is Philippians 4:6-7 which many of us know, but if you’re like me, sometimes we need a reminder. In the Message translation it says “Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.”

There are a couple of things this passage instructs us to do:

  • Pray: don’t be intimidated by this. Prayer is simply communication with God, your Father and best friend. The same way you have to tell the doctor what’s wrong, tell God your worries, He cares more than you know.
  • Praise: this takes the attention off of ourselves and puts it on Him. We place our worries in His hands, then we thank Him knowing that what we have asked will be done according to His will. (Side note: this is why it’s important to attach Scripture to your petitions, His Word is His Will. It does not fail, it does not return void, He will never break a promise to you). We also praise simply because we love Him, He is always good and always faithful, HE IS SO WORTHY.

This is it. This is the answer to everything. Prayer and praise, praise and prayer. Lift your eyes unto Jesus, love on Him, His beauty alone will captivate you and your circumstances will seem so small. Then pray, He is such a good Father, He cares and wants better for you than you could ever want for yourself. Then tell everyone of the amazing things He has done in your life, use it all to give Him glory!

I hope this blessed you, let me know in the comments what you thought and what you’d like to hear more on in the future! Also, feel free to connect with me on social media, all of my info is in the “About” tab here on the website. See you next Monday! 🙂
