My Journey (so far) as a Christian Actor:

“Hey, that’d be really fun to do”, I said to myself as I laid down watching Netflix in my dorm room in college…this, ladies and gentlemen, was the start of my acting career. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d have a desire for acting, I took one class forcefully when I was 9 years old because my mom was trying to break me out of my shell and I never thought about picking up again until that moment in college. However, once I had that moment acting was all I could think about, I was constantly reading articles and watching YouTube videos about every aspect of the business and how I could dive in. As you could imagine this was a huge shock to my parents, especially when I told them I wanted to drop out one year into college to pursue acting instead of Veterinary studies…they begged me to stay and at least finish, which in the moment was absolute torcher but I am very grateful for now.

For the rest of my time in college I had the opportunity to go on some auditions, travel, and even sign to my first agency, I can give you more details on that at a later date. Lol. I was fully convinced that the second I graduated from college my career would automatically take off! Let me tell you, that didn’t happen haha BUT once I graduated was when I really started pursuing God and THAT is what changed everything for me. I finally realized why I wanted to act, something I didn’t have clarity on at all before. I finally understood when God said to me “this talent I’ve put inside of you isn’t for you, it’s for Me to show My Glory through you.” This dream was much bigger than myself, in fact it had nothing to do with me and it had everything to do with Him, and He became my reason for pursuing this with everything I have. The acting, being on screen, getting praise from people it’s not for me, it’s for Him. To give Him glory. To show people that He can do anything through you if you let Him. To bring people to Him.

Fast forward to now, years later, I recently signed with my DREAM acting agency that I had been believing to be with for five years! I talked about it a little bit in my last blog. I’ve done three films, once in which I was the lead, they’ve all won many awards PRAISE GOD, and several commercials, national, statewide, and regional, I also participate in media promotion and theatre productions at my Church and it’s just the beginning! Soon you’ll be seeing me on the big screen and watching my Oscar’s acceptance speech. He gets ALL the honor and glory!

Being an actor (even more so a Christian actor) can have it’s challenges. It means saying no to things that you know won’t glorify God, and in the industry turning things down can affect your reputation. BUT, when you’re doing it for God you can trust that He will open the right doors, give you supernatural favor, and do more than you could ever even imagine. I’ve seen Him be so faithful in my career because when you seek Him first, He takes care of the rest (Matthew 6:33), and this honestly goes for every area in life!

Whatever God has put inside of your heart, GO FOR IT! Even if people tell you it’s impossible, we serve a God who does the impossible. He can do ANYTHING! If you are considering a career in acting or really in whatever area and need advice, please comment below! I’d love to answer any questions you may have, even if it’s just hearing more of my testimony in acting! Trust me, there is much, MUCH more I could tell you.

P. S. Remember, God is ALWAYS good and ALWAYS faithful!

Hey Christian, thanks so much. It’s definitely a process, but be encouraged! Read articles, backstage.com has so much helpful information, and YouTube definitely also has some great teaching resources. If you have specific questions I’d love to answer them in an upcoming blog, God bless you as well!
