Mental Clarity // Adulting // Asking for help

Hi friends! The blog is being posted on Tuesday this time, I know it’s usually Monday but it’s fun to shake things up every now and then. I feel like I have so much to talk about! I actually had been off of social media for a little over a week and just got back on yesterday, a lot had been going on (nothing bad, everything’s fine), but I just found myself in a position where I needed to put the phone down…actually I had been feeling that for a while but had been avoiding it. Sometimes when we’re going through difficult situations or seasons, new things, or even confusing times it can be easy to try and avoid it with various methods. For some it’s phones, relationships, our jobs, or for some it can even be with food. However, I’ve come to learn that avoiding a problem doesn’t mean it’s not there, it’s not going to just somehow disappear, you have to deal with it. Imagine you spilled or dropped something on the floor, you can keep walking around it all you want but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s there, right?!

Whatever the distraction from your situation is doesn’t help you, it actually just fogs your mental clarity. I was listening to Sadie Robertson a few years ago and she said something so good, she said “time doesn’t heal, Jesus heals.” Scrolling through Instagram isn’t your solution, messing around with someone isn’t your solution, working out to the point of exhaustion isn’t your solution, binge-eating isn’t your solution, alcohol/drugs/medication isn’t your solution, because guess what?! When you put the phone down, when that person leaves, when you get home from the gym, when the high wears off, your problem is still there. The water is still on the floor. Why? Because you didn’t take time to clean it up.

Friend, trust me, I have tried several of the things mentioned previously to get through a difficult situation and none of them ever worked. The only place I have ever found peace, love, healing, freedom, mental clarity and the answer to every question I’ve ever had is in the Presence of Jesus. You may be wondering, “how do I get into His Presence?” First, invite Him into your heart, He’s waiting for you arms wide open. Talk to Him through prayer, it doesn’t have to be anything eloquent or fancy, talk to Him like you would your best friend. Also, read your Bible, it’s full of answers, amazing promises, and an invitation to a life better than you could ever imagine.

Now, for those of you like me right now, going through a new phase of adulting, I UNDERSTAND. Lol. Like, when did we become grown-ups?! I’ve been going through things that I’ve never had to deal with before, making phone calls, appointments, signing papers, making big financial decisions, and so much more…I’ve been learning two very important things in this. One is ASK FOR HELP. Find trusted people that have more life experience whether it be parents, Pastors, family members, friends, co-workers, they are so willing to help and go out of their way, and if you don’t have that, I’m praying for you that you will find the right people. Proverbs 11:14 (NKJV) says that “where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” Another is before making any decision, ASK HOLY SPIRIT to guide you. John 14:26 (AMP) says “but the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor – Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.” In all of these adulting things my prayer has been “Lord, I don’t understand what’s going on, I don’t know what to do, but Holy Spirit help me and show me the right decision to make and what to do”. He will always lead you into the right decision and you will have peace.

REALLY QUICK, if you’re unsure if you’re hearing Holy Spirit let me encourage you to start asking Him for little things first. I have a great testimony of this haha a few years ago I was going to make pumpkin chocolate chips cookies (before you make a face, they were DELICIOUS), and I needed pumpkin puree…I had walked every aisle of the store at least three times and nothing. Finally I said “Holy Spirit, show me where the pumpkin puree is”, almost right after that I heard a lady ask an employee where the pumpkin puree is (like, what are the odds?!) and when I overheard where he said it was I found it RIGHT AWAY, I had walked that aisle three times and never saw it! It was a really cool moment between me and the Lord. So, start with things that are low stakes and trust that you will hear Him when He speaks.

Whatever you’re going through, rid yourself of the distractions, maybe you just feel distant from God, turn your eyes upon Jesus. Let everything else fade away. Allow Him to remove the fogginess in your mind and give you clarity, allow Him to fill all of the empty spaces in your heart, allow Him to speak answers to questions you’ve been wondering, and when people ask you “how did you do it?”, like me you’ll be able to say “it was Jesus.”

I’ve been “adulting” for quite a while now and searched in the wrong places for peace, struggled with anxiety, and avoided facing deep wounds by pouring myself into work. There is no thing, no job, no person that can heal or fulfill… only Jesus! Thank you Abby for sharing your God-given wisdom! When people ask me how I stay strong in difficulties, how I laugh amidst sorrow… the answer is always JESUS! Love you girly!
